Do you have Moxie?

UPDATED
I've included a link to the auction; see below.

I'm sure you've heard me talk about The Moxie before, but here I go again.

Dan and Nicole are opening an independent movie theater in Springfield, MO. That alone might not grab you by the shoulders and say "Hey! Pay attention!". Stick with me, it gets better...

This (young) couple decided their hometown needed a small, locally-owned movie theater...the kind that plays the films the multiplex ignores (this would be all those films you didn't recognize during the recent Oscar telecast). They wanted a place that was fun, and catered to local businesses. Since Springfield didn't have a theater like that, they thought they'd open one themselves...how hard could it be?

Dan and Nicole scraped all the money together from their couch cushions and pants pockets, and did what so many of us wouldn't dare: they set out to make it happen.

They're opening the kind of movie theater Matt and I would visit...one that shows small, quirky, independent and classic films. Their theater will display local artwork. They'll feature music from local bands. They have a fabulous concession stand that serves more than just popcorn and colas...no, they have coffee, wine, beer, pastries and more.

Which brings me to the point of this post:

It hasn't been easy. There have been many ups and downs, And they've recently hit a snag...serious renovations to the building are costing significantly more than they'd budgeted for.

Dan and Nicole put a lot of thought into how they were going to raise the money (and it's a renovation they just can't ignore), including selling their dog (just kidding, I think), selling their possessions (I believe their house is much emptier now), and auctioning off the naming rights to the concession stand, the Cinebar.

Fortunately for everyone (Bogey's safe), they've decided to go with the auction.

I can't put into words how proud of these guys I am, and I've not actually met them! What they're doing takes a lot of guts...a lot (gotta say it) Moxie; they're taking a huge risk to see their dream come true. And I'm doing everything I can to support them. And I think you should, too.

Here's what you can do:

First, visit The Moxie Blog. Read Dan's posts, and get a feel for what they're doing. Second, visit the auction. Even if you can't afford a bid, check it out. Tell everyone you know. Ask them to do the same.

You can ignore this post if you want; that's fine. But I think you'll feel better if follow through!

And guys? Thanks.

Idle Chatter:
What can I say? I think you crazy kids are going to make it!
