Pardon The Dust
Like too many areas of my lift these days, this place has been a bit...neglected.
Oops.
Sorry.
Though in my defense, I don't think anyone's clamoring for updates.
You're still getting one. (Edit: Post sat as a draft for awhile.)
We are on Kitten Watch - Fall 2025.
Syd was less round yesterday, so we are assuming there are tiny kittens somewhere on the property.
Yay...more kittens. (So many kittens.)
-Can now confirm: three blue-eyed, tuxedo kittens. They showed up on day 35 of Kitten Watch.
The guys got their communist, Marxist, radical vaccinations yesterday. We are safe(r) for awhile.
I think I've watched/listened to fewer games this year than I have in ages. I still deeply love the game, but the Pirates?
Oof.
Disheartening.
At least we'll finish with a better record than the Rockies and White Sox?
Go team.
I'm reading some really great comics right now.
While hearing the very sad news that it will be ending soon, Birds of Prey by Kelly Thompson (I suck because I am not in a place to list her artists, letterers, colorisits, editors, etc right now, & they are all magnificent) is a JOY RIDE (cue Roxette). (You are old enough to remember Roxette, right?)
I'm also enjoying her Absolute Wonder Woman.
I wasn't immediately on-board with the 'Absolute' line. I'm only reading this one at the moment, & I have no idea where it's all heading, but Kelly's Diana is fascinating. Strong, powerful...different. But still containing the soul of Wonder Woman: compassionate & filled with love. It's beautiful.
FML from Kelly Sue Deconnick
AH! I don't know how to describe the way this book hits. KS has this way of writing that just gets to me - no matter how much protective gear I layer over my heart, she finds a way in.
I don't mean mushy. I mean she makes me FEEL. Dammit, woman. Knock it off! (Please don't knock it off.)
Uncanny X-Men - Gail Simone
I was a bit unsure when I grabbed this. I adore & trust Gail, but unlike with DC stuff where, while not actively reading anything at the time, I was still vaguely in the loop on plots, etc.
But I could not tell you what had been going on in Mutant Land (islands? Something about islands).
I should have known better. It's a delightful, heartfelt & action-packed series. Loving it.
Batman - Matt Fraction
Ok, it's only issue #1. But I'm already liking it. A lot. And Fraction's another writer I really like.
- Issue #2 was also very good. Not that I doubted.
- ALSO! Finally caught up on Lazarus by Greg Rucka & Nicola Scott. I'm telling you, one wordless
panel from her can convey five paragraphs of dialogue. The way those two work together is magical.
-ALSO ALSO! Speaking of, I have now read the first three issues of their Cheetah & Cheshire Rob
the Justice League.
Look, I am not someone who says, "Oh, yay! A series about the bad guys!" I'm there for the heroes.
But oh my god. This one is just Fun. An impossible heist story with heart? Um...yes, please.
And of course the art is stunning.
I can't remember the last movie I watched. And not a lot of TV?
-I have seen Superman! I really & truly liked it.
I've become mildly obsessed with a show I found on YouTube called Digging for Britain. Archaeology! It's smart, doesn't do the sensational or dramatic thing, but rather show actual science and history. I am so hooked on this program.
-Ok, I also regularly watch a channel about a family from the UK who are restoring a French chateau, a couple of Brits renovating a 500 year old cottage in the Cotswolds, & Sorted Food.
I just want to make soups and stews and bake all the bread, but September's not quite ready to let go of temps in the upper 80s yet.
I saw a recipe for sourdough croissant loaf bread (from KAB), as well as one for pretzels (Gesine) and my already activated cozy-setting went into overdrive.
-Temps have fallen! I've made soooo much bread. I made the croissant bread (very, very tasty), & have been using my starter discard after nearly every feeding.
I've made gumbo & Irish lamb/faux beef stew. We are now on track.
39 days until Halloween!
-4 days until Halloween. Still have not decorated. We did get a pumpkin to carve, & I'm hoping that happens soon.
I am always spooky, but the big day is something to look forward to.
I was hoping we'd get decorations up this weekend, but with the vaxxes and me doing a lot of food prep, it does not look like it's happening.
I saw someone use 'You haunted Victorian doll' as an insult, and my world has been forever changed.
I think that's a decent, general overview. No idea when it'll happen again, so 'enjoy' what you're getting now.
-The machine I'm on does not have spell check for some reason (!?), so apologies in advance for any errors.
