2006 Book Challenge: Just Read Already!
36. Bob Hope: The Road Well-Traveled; Lawrence J. Quirk (328 pages)
Long ago, I realized celebrities are 'real' people too; and the stars of yesterday had some pretty darn colorful lives.
This book, written by a celebrity writer, who had family in both sides of the 'war' (distant relative of Walter Brennan, nephew of a celebrity mag owner), peels away the carefully scripted press releases of Hope's life, and allows all the ugly stuff to come through.
Granted, I know better than to believe more than half of what I hear or read these days, but there's enough there to back up his Quirk's claims.
No one's perfect, but that doesn't mean I don't want to know the truth!
